Higher Education as a catalyst for opportunity and growth

  • Ruskin College Dunstan Road Oxford, England, OX3 United Kingdom (map)

In the early days of a new government, ‘Higher Education as a catalyst for opportunity and growth’, will bring together leaders from higher education and business. It will identify how the sector can shift the narrative on the contribution that higher education is making to the UK economy and society moving forward. This event is delivered in by the Centre for Inequality and Levelling Up at the University of West London, in partnership with the Purpose Coalition, which is a national group of organisations working together to break down barriers to opportunity in the UK.

Key Questions Explored:

  1. How can we better understand, develop and communicate the wider economic benefits of extending access to higher education and work with business to do this?

  2. Are Access and Participation Plans and the regulatory approaches of the Office for Students sufficient in supporting higher education providers to widen access for economic growth?

  3. How can employers and higher education providers work together to meet their diversity and talent goals?

  4. What will the priorities of a new government be in terms of linking opportunity, higher education, growth and social mobility?

Speakers:

  • Justine Greening, ex Secretary of State for Education and Chair, Purpose Coalition

  • Chris Stanton, Chief Financial Officer, Shoosmiths

  • Professor Peter John CBE, Vice Chancellor, University of West London and Principal, Ruskin College, Oxford,

  • Professor Graeme Atherton, Head of the Centre for Inequality and Levelling Up, University of West London and Director, National Education Opportunities Network (NEON)
