It’s vital we keep the social mobility train moving forward, says Northern

Northern has signed-up to a nationwide scheme committed to advancing social mobility and equal opportunities.

The train operator will work with The Purpose Coalition to dismantle barriers and create a fairer society across its network.

By connecting people to education and employment opportunities – as well as other social and family events – Northern already plays a vital role in the social and economic wellbeing of individuals and communities across the North of England.

It is also a major employer across the region – with more than 7,000 people on the Northern payroll – and supports many more jobs in the local supply chain.

And now, as part of its membership of The Purpose Coalition, the two organisations will produce a ‘Breaking Down Barriers’ report to highlight the impact Northern makes in the region, share current best practice and identify ways to accelerate the progress being made.
